Prohibition wasn't a thirteen-year interruption for Southern California wine. It was the beginning of a thirty-two-year erasure. The industry appeared to expand. Vineyard acreage nearly doubled. But the quality tradition, the noble varieties, and the Southern California wine industry itself were being buried underneath.
